Los Angeles County public records include all files with information owned, prepared, utilized or retained by local public agencies. There is a presumption of public access to these records in Los Angeles County, though there are certain exemptions. Births and deaths are not available to eligible requesters such as spouses, parents, legal representatives and law enforcement personnel. These are obtained from the Department of Public Health Vital Records. The same goes for marriage and divorce records, though they are accessed from the County Clerk’s office. Certified copy charges vary between $14 and $25, depending on the record type. Property records are also available for public viewing and inspection in accordance with local laws. The County Registrar’s Office maintains and provides property records from 1850. Requests for these records may be mailed or requested in person.
